LibreOffice Writer Tutorial #4 - Inserting Footnotes

Writer is the word processor component of the LibreOffice suite, this outstanding piece of freeware offers not only a great set of tools but also full compatibility with Microsoft Word, aso offering full support for all major document types, like WordPerfect, Rich Text Format, HTML, OpenOffice.org, and many more. Today I'm going to show you how to insert footnotes and endnotes.



First of all, LibreOffice should be installed and running on your Windows-based machine, to do so click on the “Download” button on top of this page and get your 100% free full version of LibreOffice. The InstallIQTM installation manager will guide you through the setup process.




What are footnotes and endnotes?
Before going on I'd like to briefly introduce you to notes (footnotes and endnotes).
Wikipedia says that: “A note is a string of text placed at the bottom of a page in a book or document or at the end of a text... ...A footnote is normally flagged by a superscripted number immediately following that portion of the text the note is in reference to.
The first idea1 for the first footnote on the page, the second idea2 for the second footnote, and so on.
Footnotes are notes at the foot of the page while endnotes are collected under a separate heading at the end of a chapter in a book or a document.”

So, let´s see how we can do that with Writer.
With document you want to insert notes to opened in Writer, place the cursor where you need the first flag, go to the Insert menu and select either Footnote/Endnote...

LibreOffice Writer Tutorial #3 - Inserting Images in Documents

Writer is an extraordinary free word processor that comes with the LibreOffice suite, it offers all the tools and features necessary to perform all the word processing and desktop publishing tasks you can think of. In this tutorial I'm going to tell you about image insertion.



Notice that Writer is needed if you want to be able to properly follow this tutorial. Getting LibreOffice is really simple and quick , just click the “Download” link on top of this page. Once you have the installer, launch it, the InstallIQ installation manager will take care of the setup processin a matter of minutes.



To launch Writer you have to go to the LibreOffice Start Center and select “Text Document”.

LibreOffice Writer Tutorial #2 – Saving Text Documents

Writer is an extremely agile word processor that comes with the LibreOffice free office suite, with it you can perform all the word processing and edition tasks you need. This great piece of freeware comes with unique state of the art features for tables and image insertion, formatting and much more. In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to save a document after you finished creating or editing it.



First step is a question: have you got LibreOffice installed in your Windows-based computer? Well, if the answer to that is no, then click on the “Download” button on top of this page and get your free full copy now, the InstallIQ installation manager will take you through the steps of the setup process.



Step two, if you have finished creating or editing a document (for basic document creation and editing, please visit our previous tutorial), then you may want to save it to your HDD either for later edition, reading or sending it via e-mail, so, go to File → Save.

LibreOffice Writer Tutorial #1 – Creating and Editing Documents

The LibreOffice suite offers a word processing program besides being free (which is not a minor detail in nowadays economy), is really prepared to compete head to head with other commercial “big-name” pieces of software like MS Word or Wordperfect. This fully featured and solid free word processing application is also capable of delivering professional results at really small resources consumption. LibreOffice's Writer has all the tools to satisfy all your needs of creating, opening and editing document files ensuring that your computer will never get frozen or clogged, even performing complex tasks like inserting images, creating text columns, formatting text. So today I'm about to tell you about document creation and edition in its most basic aspects.



Before you to start you need to have Writer installed and running in your PC, if you still haven't, click on the “Download” button on top of this page and once you have the installer (i.e. in your desktop) launch the InstallIQ™ Installer which will take care of the setup process.



Now that Writer is up and ready let's plunge into how to create a new document, notice that a clear document is created and when you launch Writer and it is temporarily named Untitled1. For a new document go to File > New in the menu bar and it will be created and automatically named Untitled2 you can repeat this as many times as new documents you need.
